We welcome you all back to
our new school term.

About Us

Welcome to Langley Mill CE Infant School and Nursery. My name is Miss K. Scrivens and I am very proud to be Headteacher of this wonderful school. I have been Headteacher here since September 2007.

The school was built in 1897 when it was first a Girls’ School. It then became a Junior School before becoming the Infant & Nursery school that it is today. It is in the heart of Langley Mill, a former coal mining area.

After attending here, most of our children transfer to Langley Mill Junior School then move on to Aldercar Community Language College for their secondary education.

The facilities here are excellent. Our building is full of character and charm and we have a purpose built nursery for our rising three, three and four year olds. Inside the main building we have a separate library, hall, community room and space for small group and individual work. The building is very well maintained and has a wonderful, positive atmosphere.

The grounds here are magnificent too. We have a large developed field area and hard surfaced playground, separate outdoor learning areas for our early years’ pupils plus a wildlife area with bird watching huts, animal homes, a storytelling area and a pond area as well as outside classrooms, role play areas and adventure trails. What more could we want!

Currently we have a 52 place nursery (2-4 years),  one reception class (4-5 years), one year 1-2 class (5-7 years),  one year one class (5-6 years) and one year 2 class (6-7 years); all of which have excellent pupil to teacher/staff ratios. Children of all abilities and needs make excellent progress here and we pride ourselves on focusing on social, emotional and behavioural development as well as academic standards.

Out of school hours we love to practise our skills and develop new ones so we offer lots of extracurricular opportunities including before school, lunchtime and after school clubs.

We offer excellent support to children and families before they start here and also when our oldest children move on to the junior school.

The whole school team are excellent. They are highly professional and committed to providing the very best learning opportunities for our children. At our school we learn together, have fun together and enjoy a broad, balanced and creative curriculum.

Everything we do is summed up by our logo ‘Our school is full of  SMILES’:

Success, Motivation, Individuals, Laughter, Enjoyment, Surprise!

With best wishes,

Miss K. Scrivens (Headteacher)
